Regional District goes Island hopping this weekend

The process of Regional Government moves to the Queen Charlottes this weekend, as the October meeting of the Skeena Queen Charlotte Regional District takes place Friday night at the Howard Phillips community hall in Masset, the meeting is scheduled for a 7 pm start.

Board members will then spend the next two days attending a board development workshop on Saturday and Sunday.

With five directors of SQCRD hailing from the Charlottes, it is hoped that this is just the beginning of an increase in meetings taking place away from Prince Rupert.

The Queen Charlotte islands Observer featured details of the weekend gathering on its website today.

The Skeena-Queen Charlotte regional district will be holding its October meeting in Masset, and chair Barry Pages says more meetings may be held on the islands in the future. The regional district meetings are usually held once a month in Prince Rupert.

Mr. Pages said that with five of the 10 directors from the Charlottes, it's actually just as convenient to hold the meetings here. "We're hoping to have more meetings on the islands," he said.

The board will hold its regular public meeting this Friday night (Oct. 19) at the Howard Phillips community hall starting at 7 pm. Directors will then be attending a "board development" workshop in Masset on Saturday and Sunday, Mr. Pages said.
