18 seconds an hour...

Every hour we move eighteen seconds into the future, that's the net result of our recent reliance on the Alcan Kemano power system, a place where we and our electric clocks have been for a few weeks now.

Because the Kemano power cycle at 60.3 hertz is a little bit faster than the provincial cycle 60.0, we are moving towards the future at a rather quick pace, a fact not lost on those who are frequently found asking "what time is it anyways".

The Canadian Press outlines more of the situation, which is being shared in other parts of the province for a variety of reasons.
