The prospect of harnessing the wind for power, the need to revive the local Cancer society and an airborne overview of the city provided the content for the Thursday edition of the Daily News.
WIND FARMS ARE COMING TO PORT EDWARD AND AREA-- The potential of a number of wind energy companies seeking to harness the winds of the North coast was featured as the front page, headline story in Thursday's paper.
Also found in the pages of the Daily that day was some background on plans to revive the local chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society in Prince Rupert, an organization that has suffered the impact of the passing of Joan Hicks three years ago, it was her spirit and dedication that provided for the bulk of the fundraising efforts in the city during her time, its from her spirit that local organizers hope to rebuild the society.
Pictures, pictures, pictures, Thursday's paper featured a Wings Over Rupert collage as Monica Lamb Yorski and her camera went for a helicopter ride over the city.
Thursday's paper also provided for the editorial that offered up the Daily News blue print for the future of news gathering and community spirit from the Second Avenue printing press. (see our previous Podunkian post on this topic from Friday)
