Prince Rupert resident Ronald Lawrence McKay was arrested and has pleaded guilty July 12 to charges of trafficking cocaine.

McKay has been residing in Prince Rupert since his Jan. 9 release from prison after he served seven years for sexual assault with a weapon.

After what police describe as an "-in-depth investigation" that was ongoing since the beginning of June, McKay was arrested and charged with trafficking on Wed., July 11.

He pleaded guilty to the trafficking charge as well as four counts of breach of recognizance, which were initiated earlier this year.

The charges of breaching his recognizance stem from previous incidents that were in violation of his release conditions, including consumption of alcohol, being in a licenced establishment, and failure to report to the RCMP as required.

McKay was sentenced to 134 days in jail, which will begin immediately at the Prince George Correction Centre.
