No amount of spin is going to save this mess

The Government of Ontario is going to have to do a better job of explaining its employment policies after a University of Toronto student received an email he wasn't supposed to receive.

Evon Reid lives in perhaps one of Toronto's poorest neighbourhoods, yet his list of achievements portray him as a rising star not only in his neighbourhood but in the city. He currently is one credit short of an honours degree in political science at U of T and has a rather impressive looking resume that should make him a prized candidate for employment.

Reid thought he had found his dream job with an advertisement at the U of T job board for a media analyst for the Government of Ontario. He applied for the position on July 3rd and waited for a reply. He received a call on July 10th but had missed it, so fired off an e mail to touch base on the possibility.

So he was a little shocked to receive a terse one line reply by e mail, describing his application as that from the "ghetto boy".

Needless to say, he was a tad upset with the terminology of the e mail that apparently was not destined for him in the first place. What is described as a "an unclassified, part-time employee ... low level" employee apparently had intended to send the note to her circle of friends but it seems made a destination error in the address bar.

Simple e mail etiquette apparently is not a pre-requisite for employment with the Government of Ontario.

Read along as a Government office puts their feet firmly in its mouth and can't find a way to remove them...
