Here's one idea that we hope city council doesn't get a hold of.

Things must be getting pretty bad in Ontario, that province's largest city is toying with the idea of relying on casino money to start funding projects in the nation's largest metropolis.

The Toronto Star has an intriguing tale about the plans of Mayor David Miller and a number of Toronto councillors apparently hoping to grant Woodbine raceway full casino privileges, in exchange for a bigger cut of the profits.

Toronto is facing a 575 million dollar shortfall in its budget for next year and instead of making cuts to services and programs (and perhaps councillor salaries and entitlements) it seems that they feel that they'll let their fortune ride on the wheels of fortune in suburban Toronto.

Mayor Miller may find that his scheme has a few roadblocks to overcome, granting a casino licence is a provincial affair and it's said that the government of Dalton McGuinty aren't looking at the plan with much of the way of enthusiasm.

Tempting as it may be for politicians solve their problems , perhaps there is a slightly different and more stable path of financial security, than waiting for the roulette wheels to deliver salvation.
