First to the pump, first to your wallet Friday May 12 edition

Two more gas stations have joined Petro Can as they increase the price of gasoline in Podunk.
In Prince Rupert, only Husky and Race Trac are holding the 116.9 line for now.

The 9 am Friday pricing structure today is as follows:

Petro Can 118.9
Esso 118.9
Chevron 118.9
Husky 116.9
RaceTrac 116.9

We await the posted price of Port Ed gas from our anonymous contributor.

For those looking for some coffee break time conversation fodder, there is this study from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, a study group on the left side of the political agenda, which not surprisingly suggests that Canadians are getting gouged, and gouged good this Spring.

They even provide a handy little converter for us, a "gouge gauge" if you will, which allows the motorist to check in and see just how much "extra" the gas stations may be taking. The closest centre to us for comparison would be Prince George.

A calculation made at 9 am at the price of $1.18, would according to the CCPA's math give the oil companies 25.9 cents more than they deserve after normal profit taking is considered.

Of course, the oil companies will remind us that the CCPA isn't exactly on the side of the businessman, so take their figures and investigations, combine it with the usual theatrics from the gas companies and see where your opinion may tend to fall towards.
