Games of the XX Olympiad: Gold, Silver and Bronze

Canada started slow in Torino, but the last two days have seen the pace quicken quite a bit in the medals parade.

Friday saw Canadians take Gold, Silver and Bronze medals as Canada vaulted to the upper reaches of the totals based on skeleton and snowboarding.

Canadians finished one - two in the skeleton races as Duff Gibson grabbed the gold medal and Jeff Pain won the silver as Canadians nearly ruled the podium in the event, fellow Canadian Paul Boehm was just bumped out of third place by a Swiss sledder. After the event Gibson, who is now the oldest participant in the Olympics to have ever won a gold medal announced his retirement from the event.

That good news was preceded earlier in the day by the bronze medal success of Dominique Maltais who survived the roller derby like happenings of the snowboard cross event to take the bronze, Canada's 7th so far. Maltais avoided the carnage of the course, recovering from a nasty spill through a snow fence, to pull into third and medal contention.

The avalanche of medals today pulled Canada right up the ladder at the medals board, holding down second place with 11 medals so far.
