You're looking a little stiff there constable!

Vancouver Police have found a new weapon in the fight against crime, the cardboard cop.

Launching what has been called "Operation Silhouette" Vancouver police have been setting up cardboard cutouts of radar carrying police officers, designed to slow down the frantic pace of Vancouver traffic.

Just to keep things honest on the streets, regular police officers apparently can occasionally be found standing behind the cut outs, ready to distribute actual speeding tickets for those that dare to disregard the Constable Cardboard's of the streets.

One bright side we guess is that you can't actually get into an argument with the cardboard version, though their more chatty compatriots will still be watching from somewhere just in case you become too familiar with the paper sentries.

While it's an interesting approach to keeping the streets safe, we fear that many a politician may decide that a dozen cardboard cops is more cost effective than a half dozen of the real thing.

After all, there's no overtime pay required, no medical benefits to pay out and when it comes time for the pension years, simply taking the squad to recycling will take care of the golden years.

We of course will remain watchful for the first picture of a liberated, corrugated constable appearing in front of a Tim Horton's, something we're sure that will happen over the course of the Operation...
