From the barroom to the courtroom, in less than twenty four hours


The stories making the rounds of the town's coffee shops on Wednesday gained a bit of fact to them today, with a couple of items that we found in our googling of the Internet portals.

According to news and police reports, the incident began at a residence on Second Avenue West and ended at a local drinking establishment, where a 39 year old Masset resident was arrested without incident.

The Daily News and the Victoria Times Colonist both have a few details on last nights excitement outside of a pub on Second Avenue West. The Times Colonist one seems to expand slightly more than the Daily News web offering, so we'll provide it below.

A man and woman are under arrest after a 60-year-old man was beaten and stabbed at a home in Prince Rupert Tuesday evening.

RCMP responded to a 911 call from a house in the 700-block 2nd Avenue West just after 6 p.m. The victim was taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A 48-year-old woman from Prince Rupert was arrested at the scene, and police found the second suspect, a 39-year-old man from Masset, at a nearby pub.

The man was in breach of several court-ordered conditions, and both are being recommended for charges of assault and uttering threats.

They were both held in custody until a court appearance Wednesday.

Two arrested for an attack on an elderly Prince Rupert man

At 6:07pm on the night of November 13th, Prince Rupert RCMP responded to a 911 call from a residence in the 700 block of 2nd Ave West, reporting a male being stabbed.

Members arrived and located a 60 year old male who had been beaten and stabbed, BC Ambulance was called and transported the victim to hospital. A second male inside the residence was also attacked but was not seriously injured. A 48 year old female was arrested at the scene and police located a second suspect inside a nearby pub, he was arrested without incident.

The elderly victim was treated for non life threatening injuries and released from hospital the same evening. A 48 year old Prince Rupert woman and a 39 year old male from Masset, were held to appear in court Wednesday, November 14th. Prince Rupert RCMP are recommending both be charged with 2 counts of assault with a weapon and 2 counts of uttering threats. The male was also in breach of numerous court ordered conditions and is facing 3 counts of breach of recognizance.
