More Avalanche woes for British Columbia

The list of highways closed by the Minstry of Highways due to winter weather continues to grow in British Columbia. The Coquihalla Highway, one of the key transportation routes in British Columbia remains closed due to avalanche concerns, with no anticipated date of re-opening announced yet.

Added to the list late Monday afternoon was Highway 97 North, as the Ministry of Highways closed the north-south highway at Pine Pass due to avalanche troubles. While it doesn't isolate Northern BC from the rest of the province, it does make for a rather lengthy detour for those not wishing to wait for Wednesday's reopening. Opinion 250 had further details on the Pine Pass closure and the alternate route in place for those looking to make the drive to northern BC.

The Nisga'a Highway was also closed to traffic late Monday, again due to high avalanche risk. The closed section of the highway is the stretch from Greenville to Gingolx (Kincolith). An update on its status will be made at 9 am on Tuesday morning. The Terrace Standard had details on the roads north of Terrace.

All the closures were listed on the Drive BC website.
