John Edwards the would be candidate for President of the United States, is making the best of a rather nasty slur unfurled by the right wing zealot and caustic Barbie doll of punditry Ann Coulter.
Coulter last week referred to Edwards with a derogatory term and since then all hell has broken out, as the mainstream press, always willing to try and bring down Coulter a peg or two has spent much in the way of energy and ink in taking her to the journalistic woodshed.
Edwards the aggrieved partner on the other hand, is taking a more useful tactic, putting her crude and ignorant ways on his website and asking the faithful to donate to his campaign as a way of showing their contempt for her latest blithering.
Coulter is no stranger to controversy, and can normally be found having uttered or printed some outlandish comment that sends the Liberal left off the deep end. But her latest mess takes things beyond even the normally nasty Coulterish commentary.
So over the top were her comments, that even the Republican’s seeking office were quick to distance themselves from her, urging more journalism and less lurid name calling as a way to dispense with information.
Not surprisingly the defence rested with Fox News, which allowed her to er, expand on her trainwreck of thoughts from Friday.
As the Boston Herald puts it, was this the one incident that would finally see her banished from the airwaves and relegated to the political fringes? Sadly, as the Herald answers in its very own interpretation of the events the answer is no. They suggest that her style and overblown sense of importance are indicative of where journalism and in particular television news and current affairs have been drawn to, a land of screaming diatribes with no facts, no balance and certainly no taste.
Indeed, the reflection of Coulter can be seen in many a broadcast these days, bad news for objective and sensible news gathering, but a gold mine for Mr. Edwards’s donation pool we suspect.
