Coldplay— Violet Hill




We fell a little behind this weekend on our Podunkian Music Club entry for the week, but as they say, good things come to those who wait.

While we’ve been stuck in kind of a retro mood the last few weeks, this time around we’re fresh, fresh, fresh…

Just delivered to the YouTubian universe is a new video from the forthcoming recording by Coldplay.

One of the few bands around these days that can cause a bit of a buzz with their music, the British quartet has delivered an interesting first release for their latest offering, 'Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends',

It starts out in kind of Mad Max meets Midnight Oil atmosphere, with the band trudging atop a mountain top, with a steadily driving beat rising to its crescendo, when the simple piano chords highlight the final moments.

Know for their introspective and occasionally dark moments, Violet Hill is built along that vein., with some ominous imagery (not to mention some interesting dental impressions) matching up with the hypnotizing pulse of their music.

Through the years the critics have for the most part raved about the immediacy and intricacy of Coldplay’s music, a certain shift from the pop formula music world and its marketing templates.

You most likely won’t be hearing the tunes on pop radio, though the video will find ample airplay on the likes of Muchmusic, VH1 and such.

But it’s of interest to note that the music delivery of choice now seems to be through the Internet, whether as released on Yahoo yesterday or popping up on You Tube, the radio industry and even to a degree the video channels are getting pushed aside, as listeners seek out the new sounds from a wider number of sources, a shift that is contributing to the changing times for record labels and the bands that have signed with them.

The recording is set to be released in June, the sneak preview has been bouncing around for about twenty four hours, here’s your chance to try and solve the musical mystery of who they’re looking for love from all by yourself…
