Watching the Volcano

Well here's a wonderful use of our little internet world, and an indication on how things have changed for us over the years. No longer need we wait for the papers or the television reports of natural disasters or enthralling earth changes. Today we can sit back in the luxury of our own home and wait for Mount St. Helen to blow its top. The folks at the Mount St. Helens National Volcano monument have set up a Volcano Cam, updating every five minutes you can while away the hours waiting on the lava.

From the angle of the camera we'll be right in the lava flow, dodging the rocks from the comfort of our chairs. Located about five miles away from the volcano the camera should be able to withstand anything mother nature might toss its way, short of a cataclysmic eruption at which point, everyone west of the Mountain may wish to take to the lifeboats.

Scientists haven't given out an expected eruption time, but suggest that at any time the show may begin. Click on the link above and sit back, (way back)objects on your screen may be closer than you think!
