Speak up there young ones, there are some new workers back on the job.
The new year has brought an end to mandatory retirement in British Columbia and time will tell if the seniority lists are again filled with seniors.
Changes were made to the provinces Human Rights Code back in the spring of 2007 in order to allow people who have significant skill sets and experience to keep working as long as they choose.
The change makes BC the ninth province or territory to throw out the mandatory retirement laws, a decision that is spurred on by a skills shortage in the booming sections of the province.
So far there's been no word of a rush back to work by septuagenarians, but youngsters best stay out of their way just in case. They know all the tricks and have probably forgotten more about the job than the younger ones may ever learn.
It could make for a whole new culture at work however, coffee break may gives way to a mandated nap time, which if you think about it sounds like a pretty good idea for anyone, at any age
