U2- Window in the Skies

While the new U2 18 Singles recording is primarily a greatest hits package, as seems to be the norm these days a few new tidbits have been tossed in to make it more enticing to the dedicated fan of Ireland’s favourite export (equal or next to Guinness we assume)

One of the new tracks is features a video that is like a travelogue to the music culture, set to the beat of the song Window in the Skies, it’s video montage of many of the icons of popular music. Keep an eye out for Frank Sinatra, Frank Zappa, David Bowie, Ella Fitzgerald, Janis Joplin, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash and far too many to name. In fact, it takes more than a couple of viewings to trace just a portion of the talent roster. It no doubt will make for a great trivia question one day to name the featured artists that flash by in the 4 minutes and nineteen seconds.

The video and song make for a testimony to the power of music and its hold on our culture. The video is well crafted and is accompanied by that now famous U2 sound, one that comes straight at you with pounding drums, driving bass, an urgent guitar and Bono’s distinctive voice. Produced by Rick Rubin it has his distinctive touches on the presentation, a fascinating wall of sound to go with the quick flashes of musical genius through the years.

Follow Bono, the Edge, Adam and Larry as they bow to their mentors, tip their hat to the icons and share the video stage with their compatriots.
